Working for authors and publishers

When schools, universities, and businesses photocopy or scan pages from your published work, you deserve to be paid. We collect licensing fees for this secondary use and distribute the revenue back to you.

What we do

We issue licences to educational institutions, government agencies, and businesses that allow them to photocopy and scan from published works legally.

The fees from these licences are distributed to rightsholders based on sampled usage data. Payment amounts reflect copying patterns across the organisations we licence rather than individual transactions.

How it works

Sign a rights agreement with us and we’ll include your published works in our licensing schemes. The agreement is non-exclusive: you retain control of your rights and can still negotiate directly for uses not covered by our licences.

We handle the administrative work so you don’t have to track down individual organisations or manage multiple permissions.

Benefits

No joining fee, no ongoing costs.

Centralised licensing – We manage licensing at scale where it would be impractical for you to do individually.

International reach – We facilitate representation of your works by overseas Reproduction Rights Organisations (RROs), so you receive payments when your work is copied internationally.

Free resources – Access to our copyright Knowledge Base or ask a question on the home page.

MyCopyright portal

Once you’ve signed a rights agreement, you can manage everything through MyCopyright:

  • View and process distributions
  • Add and manage your works list
  • Update account details
  • Delegate access to staff in your organisation

We’ll provide sign-in details when you register.
