Why get a licence?

Legal compliance

A simple, cost-effective way to meet your copyright obligations.

Risk management

Licence holders are indemnified against legal action for copying within the licence terms.

Ethical use

Licensing ensures your organisation respects creative work and supports a fair system.

Free support

Access to copyright education materials, workshops for staff and students, and our helpdesk.

Support creators

Licence fees fund authors and publishers, including many Aotearoa creators.

Pricing

Pricing is based on student headcount, making copyright compliance a predictable fixed cost.

Annual fee (2025 rates):
$2.04 per primary student + GST
$4.08 per secondary student + GST

Licences are issued through NZSBA alongside OneMusic and Screenrights to simplify licensing for schools.

Tools and support

Many schools rely on printed handouts in the classroom. Our licence lets you focus on teaching, not compliance.

Knowledge Base

Available to all staff and secondary students. Submit questions to our helpdesk or ask us anything on the home page.

Second extract facility

Permits further copying beyond normal licence restrictions. Full copying of out-of-print works allowed.

Free training

Check out our Resource Library to download copyright awareness material or contact our Creative Rights Educator to discuss webinar and live copyright education seminars.

Who this helps

Teaching staff – Access high-quality published material without administrative burden. Focus on delivering education, not chasing permissions.

Compliance administrators – Keep your organisation compliant with legal obligations. The licence complements other content licences, reduces risk, and includes legal indemnification. Free education and compliance resources available.

Senior managers – Predictable EFTS-based fee structure covers a broad range of copyright material with simple, comprehensive terms.

School Principals – Effective compliance tool with broad scope and predictable costs, letting administrators focus on strategic goals.

What’s not included

Our licence doesn’t cover material licenced by other collective management organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand, or open access arrangements. For international publications, our reciprocal agreements with overseas RROs apply.

Some resources come with built-in copying permission (Blackline Masters). Others are published for one-book-per-student use (workbooks).

Specific exclusions apply. For example, copying an entire play requires direct licensing through Playmarket.
